Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is part of the protected forest network of Nagarhole and Bandipur in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu. Extremely rich in bio diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. On a Jeep Safari you may come across wild Elephants, Spotted Deer, Indian Bison (Gaur) and Sloth Bear. There are also plenty of Tigers and Leopards, but are hard to spot in the dense jungles. Elephant Rides are sometimes arranged by the Forest Department.

The Parassinikadavu Muthappan Temple is a popular destination for travelers and pilgrims to savor the charm of Theyyam, a ritual that is performed here on a daily basis during the closing evening rituals in natural suroundings.

Men adorning masks and colorful costumes perform this temple art form, which represents conflict between good and evil, with good ultimately emerging victorious over evil.

Daytime Rice Boat Journey On The Northern Backwaters
Northern Kerala has a network of secluded backwaters that feed the local paddyfields and eventually open out into the sea. Attractive and spacious houseboats, converted from traditional Keralan rice barges, provide the perfect setting for cool, tranquil and relaxing cruises.

During the day one can watch the local life as it unfolds unhurriedly along the banks: people washing clothes, collecting water for the home, working in their gardens, fishing with traditional nets, going to the temple.

In the evening the wide variety of local birdlife gathers in flocks to roost for the night while the sky is ravished by a spectacular sunset.

Bekal Fort is the largest and best preserved fort in the whole of Kerala, bordered by a splendid beach. Shaped like a giant keyhole, the historic Bekal Fort offers a superb view of the Arabian Sea from its tall observation towers, which were once occupied by huge cannons.

The beaches of Bekal are some of the finest in Kerala. Here you find shallow waters and soft white sand fringed by coconut plantations, uncrowded inland waterways and lush hillside spice gardens that spill down to the tropical backwaters and the Arabian Sea.
