Health

There are no compulsory health requirements for travel to Kerala. There are malarial regions in remote areas of the state. You are however strongly advised to contact your own GP or vaccination centre with regard to recommended vaccinations for Kerala. It is important to seek medical advice at least 6 weeks before departure as some vaccinations may require more than one injection.

It is essential that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance prior to travel to India. This insurance must cover personal accident, medical expenses, loss of effects, repatriation costs and all other expenses, which might arise as a result of loss, damage, injury, delay or inconvenience. You must also ensure that the insurer is aware of the type of travel to be undertaken.

Kerala – God’s Own Country

What To See In Kerala?

A: Northern Kerala
A region of spectacular rainforests and mist soaked mountains. Relatively untouched by tourism.

B: Cochin
The great melting-pot harbour of Kerala with the historic quarter of Fort Cochin and delicious Syrian cuisine.

C: Munnar
Tea covered hills and high ‘shola’ forests of the Western Ghats with stunning scenery and magnificent views.

D: Thekkady
The spice growing centre of Kerala, where heady aromas fill the air. Periyar is one of India’s best wildlife reserves.

E: The Backwaters
A system of interlinked tropical waterways that are best explored on a Rice Boat through still waters.

F: Kerala’s Beaches
Famed beach resorts include Kovalam, Chowara, the idyllic Poovar estuary, and Varkala and Marari to the north.

G: The Lakshadweep Islands
One of the last unspoilt beach paradises in the world. Coral atolls with superb diving and snorkeling.

When To Go?

July – September
Intermonsoon Period
The country is lush and green after the South West Monsoon, so touring Kerala during this time can be a very pleasant experience.

October – April
The Winter Season
Best time for Kerala’s beach resorts, with calm seas and dry weather. A good time for touring and exploring the backwaters as there is minimal rainfall.

May – June
The South West Monsoon
Rainfall likely during these months. The duration and intensity depends on local conditions. This is the best time for Ayurveda treatments in Kerala.

Regional Weather in Kerala

Kerala has a constant average temperature of 30 *C on a year round basis except for the cooler Western Ghats.

Kerala’s Beach Resorts
The Beach Season lasts from October to the end of April when the seas are calm and rainfall is lowest at resorts such as Kovalam, Varkala and Marari. During the Off Season the sand cover gets washed off at many of these beaches.

The Western Ghats
At Munnar (6000ft) among the tea estates, the weather is akin to a spring day in the UK. The best time to visit the Western Ghats is in April. Wildlife at Periyar is best observed from February-May as the animals come down to the lake in search of water.
